About

Welcome and thank you for visiting my blog, where you can find information about my various projects.

A word about myself: I was born in Leicester, England, but have lived most of my life in the United States. I embrace aspects of both countries - England for its rich history, culture, and natural beauty, and America for its wild places and magnificent diversity of nature. I have been a voracious reader from my youth. I devoured the lost-race novels of Rider Haggard; Arthur Conan Doyle’s Sherlock Holmes and other mystery novelists – Agatha Christie, Ngaio Marsh and others; the science fiction of Andre Norton, Hal Clement, Isaac Asimov, Arthur C. Clarke and others; M.R. James and other writers of ghost stories. Many authors, both well-known and the nearly forgotten. And plenty of non-fiction.

I began writing in 1990 and made my first sales, both fiction and non-fiction soon after. Since then, I have continued to write in multiple genres – non-fiction, historical-, science-, and supernatural-fiction, and cross-genres. My first science fiction novel was published in 1995, and first historical fiction in 2000. To date I have authored 15 novels and collections of short stories, published some 100 non-fiction articles, 60 short stories, and have appeared in 20 anthologies.

Currently I publish books under my Far Wanderings imprint, chosen to reflect my range of interests from archaeology and ancient civilizations to the wonders of the universe.

Now retired from the practice of medicine, I live in Florida with my lovely wife, Olivia, and my German shepherds, Rex and Baltasar. Olivia’s inspiration, insights, and editorial pencil help me immensely. When not writing I enjoy classical music, travel, hiking, and running marathons.

Writing gives me a profound satisfaction that I hope comes through in each new work. And if I can share a portion of what excites and interests me, or stimulate a reader to think, or even just provide an evening’s enjoyment, then I am content.
